Georgie Donaghey - Dream Create Inspire

began writing from a young age. At eight, I won an award through the Sunday Telegraph for a poem about the dentist. Life took many turns over the years and while I explored other paths my writing was tucked into a drawer.

After the birth of my first child, I felt inspired to again play with words and I began creating stories for children. That’s been my writing home ever since.

Immersing myself in the world of children’s publishing began with the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA), where I served as President for the Sutherland Shire Sub-branch for three years.

During that time I discovered many emerging children's authors who needed a voice. Somewhere they could display their stories, network with others and utilise tools and resources to assist them on their journey to publication.

In my commitment to support others and with the assistance of my husband, in 2011 Creative Kids Tales was born. Today an industry recognised site, CKT is a valuable resource for emerging and established children’s authors.

Never losing site of my publication dream, I continued writing. In 2013 I was shortlisted in both the Picture Books Preschool and Chapter Books for Older Reader categories in the CYA Competition.  I received Highly Commended in the Writing Classes for Kids Competition.

Later that year I stretched my creative wings and The Author's Shelf hit the airwaves on 2SSR. After a year of chatting with authors like Captain Underpants author; Dav Pilkey, Jackie French, McLeod’s Daughters creator; Posie Graeme-Evans, Andy Griffiths, Susanne Gervay and other extraordinarily talented authors, I decided to put The Author’s Shelf on the shelf and focus on my writing.

My first story for adults was awarded second place and published in the 2014 Heat Anthology now available through Amazon. In the same year, I was awarded third place in the CYA Competition Primary Picture Books category for I Like Dragonflies.

In 2014, I signed my first contract. And in 2015, Lulu was published through Dragon Tales Publishing. Lulu was re-released in 2017 through Wombat Books.

In 2016 I signed with Little Pink Dog Books for Clover’s BIG Ideas. In 2018 they will publish In the Shadow of an Elephant.

I've been blessed with meeting some wonderful souls from the writing industry, many I now call friends. As my characters take flight I'll continue to promote and assist those who are taking the same journey.

I’d love to hear your feedback, please drop me a line at

That’s all from me. I hope you enjoy my website.

Goodbye Smiley
